Signal Hill Shooting on Thanksgiving Day Sunday.
On Sunday, October 7th, 2010 in a quiet inner city community of Signal Hill shots were fired in the middle of the day. A man left his home at 12:30 p.m. where he began shooting a gun. The police arrived immediately and the gunman began shooting at police. Many local residents ran for their safety but luckily no one was injured except for the shooter. A 17-year-old local resident, Alicia Taylor was getting something from her car when she heard the gunshots. In fact, one of the bullets went right over her head. After realizing what was going on, she ran for cover in her home. After firing a number of rounds at the police, the man turned the gun on himself. He later died at hospital. He is described as an Asian man in his early 20’s. The reason for this incident is still unknown.
This story made me feel very nervous and scared. I live in Signal Hill and having a shooting happen so close to home makes be see how careful we must all be no matter where we are. You would think that our neighbourhoods are our safe places but sometimes they are not. This story really hit home for me because I know Alicia Taylor through my social network and realizing how close she came to getting shot really made me realize how anyone could be hurt on any given day. There are two things that I really thought about when I heard of this shooting. The first one is how we should live each day to the fullest because you just never know what could happen. The second thought was about the shooters parents and how sad they must feel that this has happened to their son. I think the man must have been dealing with some pretty bad things if he went that far to shot a gun and then shot himself dead.

The european union and IMF on Monday agreed to bailout Greece with loans up to 110 billion euros ($146 billion), if the government of Greece would cut their public spending. This bailout should help the government meet its obligations. But, it is not clear that it will prevent a fall out in the European markets. The agreements that the countries have come to is a payment plan that will happen over 2 years and total over 110 billion euros. The IMF will be helping with this bailout package, however, the amount and terms of the IMF deal is still unclear.
In my opinion this is not a bailout , but rather a bandage. The countries of europe and the rest of the world are feeling these events again. We have to stop covering up these situations and fix them. It is like a dam with a hole in it. You plug one hole and another opens. I think that sometimes you have to let it all go and then rebuild. The sooner we do it the better we are in the long run.

10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11
On September 11th, 2001 the world stood still as we watched an horrific terrorist attack on the United States of America. The Pentagon and The World Trade Centre were attacked. Over 90,000 firefighters, police officers and volunteers rushed to help those people who were trapped in the World Trade Centre in New York. The ripple of this attack was felt around the world...it was an attack on every country who stands for freedom. The 10th Anniversary events on September 11, 2011 is a major current event.
I believe that this event is an opportunity for remembrance and reflection. I was seven years old when this happened and it is hard for me to remember that day. I do know how powerful and sad this event was. We must remember the event and the lives that were lost but we must also remember why we fought back. Our freedom is worth fighting for and as we move forward we must learn from our past and work to find peace in a world where we all may live without fear.
